What careers are available to people double majoring in sociology and psychology?
Question by : What careers are available to people double majoring in sociology and psychology?
I’m currently majoring in sociology with a minor in psychology. I’m thinking about switching that minor to a major. Would that open up anymore job opportunities without having to get my masters?

Hi Lauren,
A graduate degree will greatly enhance your chances of landing a job in a soc/psy related occupation. While you may be able to gain an entry level position in a social service agency or a corporate or government bureaucracy, you’ll need some additional education/training beyond the double undergrad major to have a real chance at a career path in one of those settings. I recommend trying to land an internship or some other sort of practical experience as part of your undergraduate experience. Talk to your college adviser regarding some specific coursework beyond the minimum that might help you get a leg up in your job search. A summer internship or even volunteer work in a helping setting could make all the difference. I’d say the double major won’t matter all that much. Best of luck. Regards.
